Georgia is a small country spanning both Asia and Europe, belonging to Asia, but the living customs of the Georgian people are more similar to those of Europe, so people have become accustomed to categorizing it as part of Europe, and Georgia is one of the poorest countries in Europe, with a small land area, a small population, and a lack of natural resources.
However, although it is poor, it has also been rated as one of the “Top Ten Best Traveling Countries in the World” by Lonely Planet and has the reputation of being “the back garden forgotten by God”, and is rated as the third safest country in the world.
Georgia is located between the large and small Caucasus Mountains. And the Caucasus Mountains once played a very important role in the Western mythological system. For example, Prometheus, who stole fire for humanity and was therefore punished by Zeus and bound to the Caucasus Mountains to endure the wind and sun. The place where Prometheus was imprisoned is in the Kazbegi Mountain in Georgia, which has precious golden wool and the Colchis in the west of present-day Georgia.
Georgia is located on the Caucasus Mountains, and two-thirds of the country’s total land area is mountainous or hilly, and it also combines the landscapes of other countries, such as the snow-capped mountains in Switzerland and the castles in Germany.
When traveling in Georgia, the first stop may be the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, which is also the largest city in Georgia and an important transportation hub in the Caucasus region.
Coming to Tbilisi, it is inevitable to go to the Trinity Church to see the splendid scenery. The church was built from 1995 to 2004. It is the third highest Orthodox cathedral in the world and also one of the largest religious buildings in the world in terms of total area. There are different styles of cross columns standing on both sides of the road to the Trinity Church, and the height from the ground to the top of the cross of the dome is 87.1 meters. The interior space of the church is large. In addition to the main church, there is also an independent bell tower, a monastery, a small chapel and other buildings.
Coming to the old city of Tbilisi, the ancient and outdated houses are the soul of the old city of Tbilisi, and Soviet-style buildings can be seen everywhere. In the old city, there is a square named “Freedom Square”. It was originally built in the 19th century during the Russian rule. During the Soviet period, the square was successively renamed Beria Square and Lenin Square, and there was a Lenin statue standing in the center of the square, but after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, it was renamed Freedom Square, and the Lenin statue was also replaced with the current St. George and the Dragon pillar. This square is a place for Tbilisi people to participate in various serious or non-serious opportunities.
Georgia also abounds in fine wine. It is the hometown of the Soviet father, Stalin, and has the oldest red wine producing area in the world. The 8,000-year-old wine jar unearthed in Georgia is the earliest evidence of the discovery of wine.
It has large vineyards comparable to those in France and is the origin of world wine, retaining the old local traditional craft. When making wine, a type of pottery container called “Qvevri” is used to seal the grapes in the container and then buried underground. After several months of spontaneous fermentation, it can produce mellow wine. And it is also a good thing to be able to drink good wine at a cheap price here.
In fact, these are just a part of Georgia, its ancient and mysterious cave city, and the paradise for winter skiers, Gudauri, and so on, are all good places worthy of our going to explore the mystery! Every experience in Georgia will make you unforgettable!
